Advanced Botox

Botox can also be used creatively in a number of ways to treat excessive sweating, stop chin dimpling, adjust the smile, and as a blocking agent reducing muscle activity so used in the treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction (for people who grind their teeth) by reducing tension on the jaw joint. It can also de-bulk the muscles at the corner of the jaw to bring about a softer curve to the jaw line. Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?

Botulinum Toxin A has been compared to penicillin due to its versatility in treating many different problems and because it is an organic product derived from a common bacterium. It has been used in many different applications throughout the last 5 decades of medical care. The risks are extremely low if administered properly by a qualified doctor, since Botox does not spread to other areas of your body.

Contraindications
You will not be able to have Botox if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Side effects
The common side effects of Botox are short-lived including redness of the injection site or bruising. Rarely, a temporary headache is experienced and a droopy brow may occur. The latter can be relieved with prescription eye drops.

After care
You should avoid alcohol, exercise, sunbeds, saunas and facials for 24 hours after treatment. Moving the facial muscles immediately after the procedure helps it to take effect.

What areas can benefit from an anti-wrinkle injection?

Commonly treated areas include:

Smile Adjustment
A "gummy smile" is seen when the upper lip reveals too much of the upper teeth and gums. For ideal smile aesthetics, only a small portion of the upper gum should be seen. Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to relax the muscles responsible for upper lip movement thereby creating a more aesthetically pleasing smile.
Marionette Lines
With precise placement of anti-wrinkle injections, the natural resting position of the lips can be adjusted. A down-turned corner of the mouth can make a face look sad, even when not. When treating the marionette lines, the corners of the mouth are gently elevated, creating a more natural happy face.

Mentalis
This is the muscle which forms the chin. Some chins are dimpled, or puckered or simply squashed, resulting in a groove between the chin and the lower lip. Advanced application of anti-wrinkle injections can modify this appearance.

Masseter (Jaw line)
This muscle rests at the angle of the lower jaw and causes a squared facial shape in cases of bruxism (tooth grinding) leading to pain. Botox here will reduce painful symptoms or slim the face giving a softer curve.
Hyperhidrosis
Botox can prevent release of excessive sweat when applied with a specialized technique to the axilla (armpits) face, or palms.
